Mercedes Benz SLC 2017 Bids Farewell to SLK-Class

Two decades ago, the famous Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class came as a mere solution to the almost-dying company. The effect of its existence is so tremendous that it became the foundation of the company’s ascending stair. And now, a new generation of Mercedes-Benz, the SLC Class, aims to follow its footsteps.

Exterior

Since the SLK’s style need not to be fix further, the company’s ‘Rennsport’ Grille or the famous ‘Panamericana’ look will still exist in the future designs, despite having a more prominent grille and the brand-new ‘Diamond-mesh’ look. A new set of headlights will be installed and full LED lights are expected to become a lighting option, while making the SLK’s wide tail lights look slimmer at the same time.

The changes are somewhat more on the engine side, though: regular models will exclusively feature a four-cylinder powered engine, while the AMG version will feature a twin-turbocharged V-6. SLK300’s 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder returns as the SLC300’s engine, while the SLK350’s 302 horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine will become somewhat ‘extinct’.

The SLK55 AMG’s 415-hp, 5.5-liter V-8 engine, though being a unique feature of the said model, will also discontinue. It’s going to be replaced by the Mercedes-AMG SLC43, which features a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter, 362-hp and 384 lb-ft torque V-6. The engine’s expected top speed will be 155 mph and a 0-to-60-mph time of 4.6 seconds.

Interior

The interior design is almost the same; just a little control and trim is changed. The electronics are upgraded to support new and standard assistance systems like the collision-prevention feature. However, SLC offers two class-unique options such as the Airscarf and a panoramic glass roof. The retractable top can now be operated while moving at up to 25 mph speed so it’s now less of a hassle compared than before.
