In 1992 (after the tragic suicide of its CEO in 1988), the company gave up all its businesses and concentrated only on telecommunications. Nokia is the key contributor to manufacture and sell the GSM standard mobiles. The GSM standard was adopted by EU in 1987. After focusing on GSM technologies, Nokia became the biggest mobile manufacturer in 1998.
