Are you planning out to buy a brand new Android Smartphone? Aside from rocket-high performance specifications such as a 4GB RAM, 128GB internal storage, an octa-core MediaTek processor and an Adreno 820 GPU, what are you looking for? There are many things that a smartphone consumer must think of. However, it’s a sad thing to know that, aside from looks and performance, only a few people would pay attention to this matter: your smartphone should be water-resistant.
For a whole year, a certain tech company releases at least two gadgets, promising specifications that will surely get consumer attention. However, even though there are very expensive smartphones out there, only a few of those companies pay attention to the smartphone’s water-resistant feature. To those who don’t know water-resistant is very much different from water-proof in every single way. Needless to say, there’s no such thing as a water-proof smartphone due to the fact that water can easily penetrate even the smallest hole in your smartphone.
As of now, smartphones are now being graded according to their Ingress Protection or IP Rating, which consists of two-digit numbers. The first digit represents the dust protection rating, which is graded from 0-6 while the second one is for water, which is graded from 0-8. Needless to say, the higher the IP Rating the better protection your Android Smartphone has.
As for the time of this writing, listed below are the smartphone manufacturers that design water-resistant smartphones, along with their Android Smartphone Models:
- Sony – It’s a good thing to know that the company has started making water-resistant smartphones three years ago. Their high-end Android Smartphones which contain the water-resistant feature include the Xperia Models Z5, Z5 Premium, Z5 Compact and Xperia ZR. Being compliant with both IP55 and IP58, this ensures the customer that it’s going to survive a sudden immersion for at least one meter underwater.
- Samsung – The Tech Giant has started adding the water-resistant feature in their Galaxy S5, S5 Active and S6 Active. These smartphones are all IP67-compliant. However, it’s a sad thing to know that the company has failed to add this feature in the regular Samsung Galaxy S6.
- HTC – Even though it’s just a reasonably-priced Android Smartphone, be informed that the HTC Desire Eye is definitely water-resistant, which is very noticeable in its dust and water-resistant casing. Even the HTC M8 also has water protection, though it’s considerably weaker compared to the Desire Eye.
