LASIK Surgery: Positive and Negative Effects

Nowadays, many people are experiencing various eye defects that really require immediate action. Usually, these actions include wearing eyeglasses or contact lenses. We all know that eyeglasses make the wearer look ‘nerdy’ or ‘geeky’, which can be a good cause for bullying especially if you’re still studying. Contact lenses, on the other hand, became a fashion trend these past few years due to the fact that it comes in different colors and styles. However, wearing contact lenses can also pose risks since it can be a breeding ground for microbes, which can be downright dangerous to our eyes. That’s the reason why LASIK Surgery came to be.

What is LASIK Surgery, by the way? Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis or LASIK, is a kind of eye surgery wherein the cornea or eye surface of the patient is corrected. For those who don’t know, the cornea serves as a kind of film that refracts or focuses light in our eyes, therefore allowing us to see things around us. If the cornea is damaged or has a problem of any kind, this will eventually affect our sight. Wearing eyeglasses or contact lenses can be an immediate solution. However, if you want long-lasting results, this can be the best solution for you. If LASIK is done correctly, this can improve your overall vision. Just don’t expect that this can give you a 20/20 rating, though.

LASIK, however, also poses risks just like any other surgery. Aside from being expensive, you must undergo an eye exam from the most trusted and experienced ophthalmologist and eye surgeon before considering that one.
