You may have gone through elementary science, with experience of creating ant colony project.  You may have concluded that you know much about these small, social insects.  You must be wrong concluding it that way.  There are many kinds of ants you may not have known about.  Check out which on our list you already knew about:

  1. Odorous House Ants
  • As the name suggests this kind of ants give off an odorous and acidic smell which is actually butyric acid whenever they feel threatened. These ants normally live outside houses but can be seen inside as well when they fill like tripping in for food.

  1. Citronella Ants
  • Speaking of scent-emitting ants, another kind that gives off odor is the Citronella ants. Unlike the Odorous House ants, these ants gives off a zesty lemon or citronella scent most especially when they are squelched. In their own kind, these ants are more of the “cannibal” type as they feed on aphids.  Entomologists are still groping in the dark whether Citronella ants have other diets.

  1. Crazy Ants
  • These ants are an anomaly to their kinds, since ants are actually known for their organized one-line parade. These kinds simply roam around in their own accord and can be pretty nuisance as they get into your appliances or computers! In a positive sense, they might be the most curious of their kind.

  1. Amazon Ants
  • These are Nazi-type of ants, very nasty indeed! They invade other colonies and enslave the ants they capture. The Amazons kill the reigning queen of the nest they seize and take the slaves to take care of their own queen and kind. More often they even seize pupas from the other colony and raise them to be their slaves!
