Maria Sharapova is known for her performances in several grand-slam tournaments all over the world. She is a Russian player residing in USA since 1994. With the win of 2004 Wimbledon grand slam she entered into the top 10 (Now Rank 5) of WTA rankings and never looked back. She had appeared in 8 grand slam tournament finals till now out of which she won four and lose four.
She was ranked as No.1 in five separate occasions, for a total period of 21 weeks. She is one of the six players who completed the career grand slam (winning Wimbledon, French Open, Australian Open, US Open) in the open era. She got fans worldwide for her aggressive playing style with strong base line, depth, power and angles in both forehand and backhand shots. She had more wins on fast playing hard grass courts where as on clay courts her performance is comparatively less.
She is one of the most beautiful tennis players with top class performance. She was brand ambassador for several brands which includes but not limited to Nice, Prince, Canon, Motorola etc. She even appeared in several fashion shows and apart from tennis player she is a good model too. She is known for her kind heart and participated and encouraged several rescue and disaster management operations. She participated in UNDP Chernobyl-Recovery projects and acted as UNDP Goodwill Ambassador etc. She founded a charily foundation “Maria Sharapova Foundation”, for which some percentage of funds from each of her endorsement will go and do activities starting from disaster management to mal-nutrition eradication etc.
She got place in the top 30 elite women tennis players of Time magazine (30 Legends of Women Tennis – Past, Present and Future). She even appeared on top cover of Sports illustrated Swimsuit issue. She featured in the “100 Greatest of all Time” by Tennis Channel. From 2005 to 2011, for a period of six years, she continuously named in the Top 100 Celebrity List of Forbes magazine. Collaborated with Nike, she even launched her own tennis sports line “Nike Maria Sharapova Collection”, which got very good response from tennis lovers.
