Audi E-Tron Quattro Concept : A True Rival of Tesla’s Pride

It seems that the Silicon Valley car manufacturing giant, Tesla, triggered a conspicuous—albeit—silent challenge with the European luxury carmakers. Their third luxury EV set Porsche into conceptualizing the battery-powered Mission E.  There’s a great possibility that Audi will be joining the ranks soon as the company already produced their realistic vision.

Audi confirmed during the Frankfurt Motor Show that they will launch a luxury EV crossover in the first semester of 2018.  Dubbed as E-Tron Quattro, it is portrayed to have a silhouette of a coupe but will have the dimensions of 16ft in length, 6.3ft in width, and 5.1 in height.

Further, the German carmaker stated that the EV’s engineering was derived from their R8 e-tron sports car.  Having said this, they indirectly declared a competition against Tesla Motors.

E-Tron Quattro will have an octagonal grille gracing the fascia, coupe-like roofline (hence, the silhouette), solar roof, OLED lighting, 22-inch wheels and laser technology.  The grille’s 5 bright horizontal strips appear to be a significant as it will denote Audi’s line of electric, hybrid and hydrogen-fueled cars in the future.

As for the power, the Crossover EV will be fitted with one electric motor up front and two motors on the rear axle.  Combined power summoned by the motors rolls up to 496hp with max of torque in 590 lb.-ft.  It will also have two exemplary modes—the Drive and Sports settings.

  • Engine : 3 electric motors (1 front, 2 rear) + 95-kWh lithium-ion battery pack
  • Drivetrain : AWD
  • Power : 496hp
  • Torque : 590 lb.-ft.
  • 0-62 mph : 4.6 seconds
  • Price : no details yet
