We can remember Mazda’s MX-5 Miata as a superstar sports car way back in 1989. As time passed by, new superstars come and go and MX-5 Miata was among those who put smiles back only as a memory.
But this year, Miata is back with a vengeance. Revamped, remodelled… call it in terms of having a total make-over. What once was a svelte and sleek roadster was remodelled into something light and fun-loving. Mazda’s engineers made a point of shedding weight, from suspension factors to body panels to the car’s interior components. Surmise to say, Miata gained back its formula one.
Exterior and Interior
MX-5 Miata follows its maker’s very own principles which is SkyActiv.philosophy. Shedding of 150 pounds, it now bears 2,332 lbs. weight, rendering it much lighter than its previous version. While it’s lightweight, it has been endowed with remarkable control and safety features such as: peripheral controls, lane departure system, rain sensitive wipers, rear-cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring and adaptive front lights.
Much to the dismay of six-footers, they may find seats not too promising for those mile-long legs. Yup, the passenger seat of this speedster is not designed for big-people, surmise to say. Drivers need not to get anxious though, as their seat has been adjusted low and near the center of Miata.
Engine, Transmission and Price
Noticeably, Mazda cut off power for this revamped model, allowing mere 151 horsepower and 148 lb.-ft. torque. However, Mazda begs to differ as this is not initially created to be a fast racer but something that lets you enjoy the ride. The Japanese maker sees to it that the driver and automobile establish their connection and not the challenges of competition. Overall, it’s one car that’s not generic, is gender-wise and commits totally to its driver.
