Mercedes Benz SL 2017

A Fresh, New Face for 2017 Mercedes-Benz SL

Already certified a topper and a looker, Mercedes Benz does not stop in making the 2017 model of their SL to be better.  The R231 generation Mercedes-Benz SL-class sports much better qualities than its successor and this is why MB SL-class still holds the number one spot under the category of premium sports coupe and convertible.

Exterior and Interior Design

The fresh look includes the perfect harmony between the squinting full-LED headlights and the grille.  The latter has actually been turned over in an upside-down fashion, which is why you see that it has now a wider bottom.  Looking at the front fascia, one can definitely conclude that it’s more striking than the previous generation.  For color trims, clients can choose between the fancy Designo Selenite Grey Magno and the classic Brilliant Blue.

Inside the cabin, the gauge cluster is placed closely at the driver, hinting that they’re more driver-friendly.  Polar white and polar blue are options for ambient lighting.   The center console storage ambient lighting highlights the brand emblem on the dual USB ports.  The drop-down roof can also be opened at up to 25 miles per hour; while the trunk separator automatically exits during the top-down mode.

Power and Performance

The SL450 trim gets the base 3.0L twin-turbocharged V6 that can generate from 329 to 362hp and 354 to 369 lb.-ft. of torque.  Both the SL450 and SL550 trims now accommodate 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. AMG SL63 and SL65 get the 5.5L V8 and 6.0L twin-turbocharged V12 respectively.

The non-AMG models offer Mercedes’ own curve-tilting function with Active Body Control which opposes cornering forces by tilting the body for up to 2.65° into a turn.  However, choosing Active Body Control also means that you have to eliminate the Eco function from the five Drive Select modes.  Instead you will be having the Curve mode.   Meanwhile the AMG trims i.e. SL63 and SL65 come with a mechanical rear differential lock standard.
